Makeup Ideas : 3Celeb-inspired Looks to Transition Into Fall

Dramatic Lashes And Glowy Skin.

Thick, heavy lashes are one of fall’s largest trends—and Diane Kruger wore them expertly with rose-gold shades on her cheeks and lips at the Venice Film Festival this week. To copy her look, line your eyes with a soft brown pencil, then liberally apply several coats of black mascara, holding the wand vertically and moving it across your lashes from left to right until they’re purposefully spidery-looking. With a huge fluffy brush, dust on a rose-gold blush, like Chanel Joues Contraste in Rose Bronze, and swipe on a sheer lipstick in a similar hue, like Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Glow Bronze. To give cheeks a bit of that end-of-the-summer sheen, tap a highlighter along the tops of your cheekbones. I like Urban Decay Urbanglow Cream Highlight in Wicked—thanks to a bit of pink, it doesn’t scream bronze goddess, just luminous, pretty skin.

Makeup Thoughts

Simple Glamour.

With cherry-red lips and a fishtail braid on the verge of falling out, Ali Larter’s laid-back style takes two of summer’s hottest trends—bright lips and the braid—and changes them up a bit for fall. Her lip color is bold but not neon, andby keeping the fishtail braid loose and messy, it doesn’t look like she’s pulled back her hair for a pool party. The makeup Thoughts is simple: Even out your skin tone with a small concealer or foundation, add some mascara and a soft pink blush, then swipe on your lipstick. To make the fishtail braid, check out our how-to guide courtesy of hairstylist Tommy Buckett—just be sure to pull out a few loose pieces after you’re done.

Makeup Thoughts

Fall Metallics.

At the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday, Zoe Saldana smoldered with bronze-brown winged shadow and pale pink lips—it was a pleased medium between sexy golden summer makeup Thoughts and the dark smoky eyes we like for fall. The winged shape of the shadow made a soft version of the cat eye that was anything but retro. Start by applying a golden-bronze shadow (Nars Shadow in Étrusque is pretty) all over your lids with a small shadow brush. Then dust a darker, brown-bronze shade (like M.A.C. Shadow in Bronze) at the outer corners of your eyes, brushing it out into an exaggerated wing shape and blending so it fades at the end. Add a bit of bronzer to your cheeks, and swipe on a sheer glossy pink lipstick (I like Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Sheer Candy in 3).
